Unsubscribes, bounces and the blacklist
How SendCoop handles unsubscribes, hard and soft bounces and spam complaints, and how to block addresses with the blacklist.
SendCoop keeps your list clean for you. People who unsubscribe, addresses that hard bounce, and people who mark your email as spam are kept out of future sends automatically.
Subscriber statuses
- Subscribed: receives your campaigns.
- Unconfirmed: signed up to a double opt-in list but hasn’t clicked the confirmation link yet.
- Unsubscribed: opted out of this list.
- Blacklisted: blocked from receiving email, for example after a hard bounce.
- Spam reported: marked one of your emails as spam.
You can filter the Subscribers page by status with the All statuses menu.
Unsubscribes
Every marketing email needs an unsubscribe link. In the email editor, click Personalize and insert the unsubscribe link, or add {{ UNSUBSCRIBE_URL }} as a link. The inbox score warns you if it is missing.
When someone clicks it, they see your list’s unsubscribe pages. You can edit them in the list menu under Forms / Pages: Unsubscribe form, Success page and Goodbye email.
To get an email each time someone leaves, switch on Unsubscribe notification in the list’s Settings.
You can also unsubscribe people yourself: tick them on the Subscribers page, open Actions and choose Unsubscribe.
Bounces
- Hard bounce: the address doesn’t exist or permanently rejects mail. SendCoop blacklists the address in all your lists and adds it to your blacklist, with the bounce as the reason.
- Soft bounce: a temporary problem, such as a full mailbox. It is logged, but the contact stays on your list.
You can see bounces for each campaign in its report, under Sending logs then Bounce log.
Spam complaints
When a recipient marks your email as spam and their provider tells SendCoop, the contact is marked Spam reported and blacklisted, so you don’t email them again. Complaints appear in the campaign’s Feedback log.
The blacklist
Blacklisted addresses never receive campaigns from your account.
- In the left sidebar, click Settings.
- Under Sending, click Deliverability, then open the Blacklist tab.
- Click Add email to block one address. Add an optional reason, such as “Asked not to be contacted”.
- Or click Import to upload a CSV of addresses, one per line or in the first column.
To blacklist contacts who are already on a list, tick them on the Subscribers page, open Actions and choose Blacklist.
