Connect Shopify

Connect your Shopify store to SendCoop with a custom app's Admin API access token and API secret key to sync customers, orders and carts.

Connecting Shopify lets SendCoop count the revenue your emails bring in, add customers to a list, and send abandoned-cart reminders. You connect with a Shopify custom app, so there is nothing to install from the Shopify App Store.

Before you start

  • You need to be able to create apps in your Shopify admin (usually the store owner or a staff member with that permission).
  • Have a SendCoop list ready for your store customers. See Create your first list.

Step 1: Create a custom app in Shopify

  1. In your Shopify admin, open Settings > Apps and sales channels > Develop apps.
  2. Click Create an app and name it “SendCoop”.
  3. Under Configuration > Admin API integration, select these scopes:
    • read_orders
    • read_customers
    • read_products
  4. Save.
  5. Click Install app.
  6. Copy the Admin API access token (it starts with shpat_) and the API secret key. Shopify only shows the access token once, so keep it safe.

Step 2: Connect in SendCoop

  1. In the left sidebar, click Integrations. The Stores tab opens.
  2. On the Shopify card, fill in:
    • Store address: your-store.myshopify.com
    • Admin API access token
    • API secret key (used to verify that updates really come from Shopify)
  3. Click Connect Shopify.

You will see a message that your store is connected and that new orders, customers and checkouts will now sync. The card shows Connected.

Step 3: Choose your settings

After connecting, choose the List for store customers and which features to use, then click Save settings. See Store settings, cart tracking and consent.

What syncs

  • Paid orders: counted as revenue when the buyer clicked one of your emails.
  • Customers: added to your list, but only those who agreed to email marketing in Shopify. Customers who opt out in Shopify are unsubscribed.
  • Checkouts: used for abandoned-cart reminders.
  • Products: you can pick products from your store when you use a catalog layout. See Use the template catalog.

Updates arrive in real time through webhooks that SendCoop sets up in your store.

Troubleshooting

  • “That doesn’t look like a Shopify store address.” Use your .myshopify.com address, not your custom domain.
  • “Shopify rejected the access token.” Copy the token again from the custom app. It starts with shpat_.
  • “The app is missing a permission…” Add the read_orders, read_customers and read_products scopes, reinstall the app in Shopify and connect again.
  • The card says the app was removed from the store. Someone uninstalled the custom app in Shopify. Connect again to resume.
