Automation steps: waits, conditions and actions
How to use Wait, Condition, Operation and Webhook steps in a SendCoop automation, with the options each one offers.
Between the trigger and the end of a flow, you add steps. Click + on the canvas, choose a step in Add node, then click the step to set it up.
Wait
Pauses the flow before the next step.
- Under How long should we wait?, choose For a duration or Until a date / time.
- For a duration, pick a preset (from 5 minutes up to 1 month) or type your own, such as
2 daysor3 weeks. You can use minutes, hours, days, weeks and months. - For a date or time, type it, for example
next mondayortomorrow 9am.
Condition
Splits the flow into a yes branch and a no branch.
- Choose the Condition kind: Email opened or Email clicked.
- Choose the Email to check: an earlier email in the same flow.
- For clicks, you can enter a specific link in Email link UID (click only), or leave it blank for any link.
- Set the Timeout: how long to wait for the open or click before taking the no branch. The default is 1 day.
Then add steps under each branch. For example: if they clicked, send a thank-you; if not, send a reminder.
Operation
Changes something about the subscriber. Click Choose action, then pick one:
- Add tag(s) or Remove tag(s): enter the Tags.
- Copy to list or Move to list: choose the Target list.
- Update field: choose the Field to update and enter the New value.
Webhook
Sends data to another app when the subscriber reaches this step. Choose the Method (GET, POST, PUT, PATCH or DELETE) and enter the URL.
Send email
Sends one email. Click Set up email and follow the Setup, Email content and Confirm tabs. See Build an automation.
Tips
- Put a Wait before follow-up emails. Several emails in a row with no gap can feel pushy.
- Use an Operation step at the end to tag people who finished the flow, for example
welcome-done. You can then exclude them with a segment.
