Turn on double opt-in
Ask new subscribers to confirm their email address before they join your list, for a cleaner list and better delivery.
With double opt-in, people who sign up get an email with a confirmation link. They only join your list once they click it. This keeps typos and fake addresses off your list.
Turn it on
- Click Audience, open the Lists tab and open your list.
- Click Settings.
- Under Subscription settings, switch on Double opt-in.
- Click Save settings.
Double opt-in is set per list. Sign-up forms and popups follow the setting of the list they are connected to.
Customise the confirmation email and page
When double opt-in is on, two extra pages appear in the list menu under Forms / Pages:
- Confirmation email: the email with the confirmation link.
- Confirmation page: the page people see after they click the link.
Open each one to change the wording and design.
People who haven’t confirmed yet
Until they click the link, new sign-ups have the status Unconfirmed. They don’t receive your campaigns.
To send the confirmation email again, open Subscribers, tick the contacts, open Actions and choose Send confirmation email.
Good to know
- Contacts you add by hand on the Add subscriber screen are added as Subscribed straight away.
- In an import, contacts are added as Subscribed unless your file has a
statuscolumn that says otherwise.
