Send abandoned cart reminders
Remind shoppers who left your Shopify or WooCommerce checkout, using the abandoned-cart tag and a Tag based automation.
When a shopper starts checkout and doesn’t finish, SendCoop can tag them abandoned-cart and save a link back to their cart. An automation then sends the reminder emails. When they buy, the tag is removed.
Before you start
- Connect your store. See Connect Shopify or Connect WooCommerce.
- In the store’s settings, choose a List for store customers and switch on Abandoned-cart reminders. See Store settings, cart tracking and consent.
How a cart gets tagged
- A shopper starts checkout and enters their email.
- If the checkout is still not finished after the time you set in Treat a checkout as abandoned after (from 30 minutes to 24 hours), SendCoop updates the subscriber on your store list:
- It adds the tag
abandoned-cart. - It fills three fields that SendCoop creates on the list for you: Cart link (
CART_URL), Cart total (CART_TOTAL) and Cart items (CART_ITEMS).
- It adds the tag
- When the customer completes an order, the
abandoned-carttag is removed and they get the tagcustomer.
Only shoppers who are on your list, or who agreed to marketing at checkout, are tagged.
Build the reminder automation
- In the left sidebar, click Automations, then New Automation.
- Choose the trigger Tag based.
- Enter an Automation name, choose the same list as your store (List for store customers), and enter
abandoned-cartunder Tags. - Click Create automation.
- Add a Send email step. In the email:
- Make the main button (“Complete your order”) link to
{{ SUBSCRIBER_CART_URL }}. - Show the cart with
{{ SUBSCRIBER_CART_ITEMS }}and{{ SUBSCRIBER_CART_TOTAL }}. - The catalog has a ready-made abandoned-cart layout in the Store category. Search the Campaign catalog for “Left something behind”.
- Make the main button (“Complete your order”) link to
- Optional: add a Wait (for example 1 day) and a second reminder.
- Click Activate.
Tips
- Send the first reminder within a few hours, while the shopper still remembers the cart.
- If conversion tracking is on, open the automation’s Settings and choose Stop when subscriber converts if you see it. It is checked before each email, so people whose purchase SendCoop recorded as a sale leave the flow instead of getting another reminder.
- Check the store’s Recent activity panel under Integrations > Stores. Entries marked Cart reminder show carts that were tagged.
